AASB/District Partnership
Quality Schools/Quality Students (QS2) is a comprehensive school improvement partnership/service that will assist school districts and their local communities in raising student achievement by linking a shared vision for education with successful practices. The three-year partnership brings all efforts under one umbrella, using the quality management principles of the continuous improvement cycle-Plan, Implement, Evaluate, Refine. The commitment from AASB and the participating partners is outlined as follows.
AASB/Alaska ICE will:
  • participate in a 3-year partnership with each QS2 district;
  • meet with the district's administration and Board of Education to explain the QS2 partnership;
  • conduct extensive, on-site interviews with district constituents to create a profile of their supports and concems, and present a District Inventory of the findings;
  • assist districts to design or refine an existing strategic plan based on local circumstances;
  • offer low- or no-cost, on-site, pre-conference workshops and training sessions for board members;
  • facilitate a range of asset-building activities at minimal or no cost to the district through a contract supported by Alaska ICE's federally funded grant; and
  • work with the district to build community partnerships.

QS2 District will:
  • participate in a 3-year partnership
    with AASB;
  • support logistics in conducting the
    District Inventory;
  • engage in strategic planning, either by updating an existing plan or launching
    a new effort;
  • commit to an annual update of the
    strategic plan;
  • hold a minimum of two AASB-Ied board trainings annually;
  • ensure board member participation at the AASB Annual Conference; and
  • support and encourage community engagement activities in
    your community(ies ).
Some resources can be supplied by QS2; the district will supply others; and together QS2 and the district will work together to find resources. However, it is important for the district administration and board to understand that they may need to reallocate personnel and finances in order to meet defined strategic goals.
