STEVENS SAVES EDUCATION
PROGRAMS FROM BUDGET AX
President Bush has signed an omnibus appropriation bill
funding a wide variety of government programs, including health and education
programs important to Alaska. Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska says the budget
bill restores dozens of programs the Bush Administration proposed eliminating.

THREE APPOINTED
TO CHATHAM SCHOOL BOARD
When English teacher Melissa Cullum lost
her job last spring, against the wishes of parents and students in Angoon, she
never imagined becoming a supervisor for the superintendent who recommended her
termination. On Tuesday, Cullum joined Kimberly Strong and Fran Polumsky in
appointments to fill three seats on the Chatham School Board left empty by a

NELSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE NOW
AASB is proud to announce its 17th
Annual Scholarship Award Competition. The June Nelson Memorial Scholarship is
named in honor of the late June Nelson, long-time school board member from
Kotzebue. This year, AASB will award ten graduating seniors each with a $1,000
scholarship to apply toward their post-secondary education, whether itŐs at a
college, business or a trade school. Applications are available here:
