ANCHORAGE PRICES RISE 2.2 PERCENT

 The Anchorage inflation rate was 2.2 percent last year, new federal figures show. That change in the consumer price index was the smallest increase since 2002. See full story here:

A THIRD OF RECALLED BEEF WENT TO SCHOOLS

 More than a third of the 143 million pounds of California beef recalled last week went to school lunch programs, with at least 20 million pounds consumed, officials with the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Thursday. About 50 million pounds of the meat went to schools. See full story here:

ANCHORAGE SCHOOL DISTRICT PULLS RECALLED BEEF

 The nationwide recall of beef from a California slaughterhouse has made its way to Anchorage. The Anchorage School District has found some of that recalled beef on its shelves. ItÕs now off limits and waiting to be disposed of properly. Other districts around the state could be in the same situation. See full story here:

RECALLED BEEF REMOVED FROM FAIRBANKS SCHOOLS

 Public school officials in Fairbanks have removed 3,200 pounds of country fried beef patties from the school lunch menu this week after the largest beef recall in U.S. history. An estimated 80,000 pounds of meat now subject to the recall were received by institutions in Alaska, according to the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development. See full story here:

OFFICIALS DISCUSS MEASURES TO STAVE OFF SCHOOL SHOOTINGS

 In April 2006, six North Pole Middle School students were arrested on suspicion of a plot to kill classmates and teachers. Police were able to foil the plot after a parent was tipped off, but the fact that such a plan came within days of occurring put borough officials, school administrators and local law enforcement on alert that such an attack could occur even here in Alaska. This week, officials convened to discuss ways to prevent such a tragedy. See full story here:
