KETCHIKAN
TEACHERS & DISTRICT REACH TENTATIVE AGREEMENT
After two and a half days of bargaining,
the Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District and the Ketchikan Education
Association TeacherÕs Union agreed to a tentative three-year deal. The
agreement includes a 4 percent salary increase in each year of the contract.

SCIENCE TEACHER
News that Jennifer Van Ausdal, a
Òcomplete educatorÓ at Wasilla High School, had died in a traffic accident
early Sunday swept within hours via text messages and phone calls through the
student body, faculty and staff. The 1993 graduate of Wasilla High returned to
teach science classes at her alma mater, and in the words of one administrator,

CONSIDERS LEAVING NCLB BEHIND
The Virginia General Assembly is
flirting with abandoning a landmark federal law that governs schools in the
U.S. The decision could make Virginia the first state to set a deadline –
summer 2009 – for planning a pullout from the No Child Left Behind Act.
