OPEN SEAT GOES TO TUCK; STEELE LANDS THIRD TERM

 Electrician Chris Tuck, a graduate of the Anchorage School District, defeated opponent Ryan Sharratt in TuesdayÕs balloting to become the newest member of the Anchorage School Board. Running unopposed for the other school board seat on the ballot, incumbent Tim Steele was re-elected to a third three-year term – the last allowed under term limit rules. See full story here:

CLARK SCHOOL GETS VOTERSÕ GO-AHEAD

 Clark Middle School will be torn down this summer, its students shuffled to other schools while itÕs replaced. Supporters say voter approval of a $65 million bond that has made this possible can be chalked up to simple fairness. See full story here:

NATIVE SCHOOL DELAYED

 Teaching the basics of education with a Native twist is the premise behind a new Native charter school designed to keep kids in school. It was scheduled to open this fall, but a problem along the way means the school wonÕt open until 2008. See full story here:

BOROUGH PONDERING PASS/FAIL GRADING SYSTEM

 The Fairbanks North Star Borough Board of Education is considering changing the way some middle school class grades show up on studentsÕ high school transcripts. Currently, students in Fairbanks have the option of taking high school-level classes while in middle school. But some educators are wondering whether a new grading system might encourage more students to take these classes. See full story here:
