EXIT OF COLLEGE LENDERS SETS OFF SCRAMBLE TO FILL BREACH

 Nearly 50 student lenders, including some of the industryŐs biggest names, have stopped issuing federally guaranteed loans in recent weeks because of paralysis in the credit markets, confronting students with higher borrowing costs just as they are starting to apply for financial assistance for the coming school year. STUDENTS IN THREE GRADES ARE ASSESSED IN SCIENCE STANDARDS

 This year, for the first time, Alaska students in grades 4,8 and 10 are taking state science assessments, as required by the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Parents will receive their studentsŐ assessment results in August. See full news release here:
