ANCHORAGE TEACHERSŐ CONTRACT APPROVED

 After months of tough talk and tense negotiations between the Anchorage

School District and the teachers union, the School Board gave final approval

to a new contract. Now the district turns to the legislature to help fund

GALENA WORKING TOWARD TRANSITION

 ItŐs a time of change and uncertainty for Galena. The town with about 650

residents is preparing to lose a partnership with the U.S. Air Force itŐs

known and relied on for nearly the last half century. Now the town and

tribal officials are looking to a variety of options, including the

expansion of its boarding school, the possible arrival of a statewide

 It is not your typical class at South High School: it has the bible as one

of its textbooks. But when students learn from it, school official say itŐs

ALASKA QUARTER DESIGN COMPETITION LOOKS FOR FEEDBACK

 Gov. Palin is due to announce her selection of the design for the new

Alaska quarter, under the 50 States Commemorative Coin Program. The 25-cent

piece will be issued next year. Now four designs are among the finalists for
