FAMILIES PLEAD FOR INCREASE TO DENALI KIDCARE

 More than 200 people gathered at an Anchorage church this week to deliver an emotional plea: DonÕt just spare Denali KidCare Funding, but increase it so more families are eligible. The program is designed for families stuck in the uninsured gap – between those on welfare and others working good-paying jobs with health benefits. See full story here:

ASAA VOTES TO ADD STATE ATHLETIC MEET

 After 32 years of large schools dominating high school track and field, Alaska School Activities Association is giving the little guys a chance to bedazzle. The ASAAÕs board of directors voted to divide the stateÕs track and field schools into two classifications for the 2008 season and shifted the site for other athletic events to other locations.  Alaskans Promoting Physical Activity and Alaska Safe Routes to School are raising awareness about the many positive health, safety and environmental benefits associated with regular bicycling and walking to school.
