PENINSULA VOTERS SAY YOUÕRE IN, BUT YOUÕRE ALSO OUT

 Kenai Peninsula voters on Tuesday set in motion a power struggle that could end in the courts but will begin with a special meeting of the Borough Assembly. In passing a retroactive term-limits initiative, voters disqualified three incumbents even as they re-elected them individually. See full story here:

NINE PLAYED IN HOOPS TOURNEY FOR CASH

 The number of students who competed for pay in the Alaska Basketball FederationÕs open tournaments grew to nine on Wednesday, according to the stateÕs governing body for high school activities. But of the nine who competed, only two received money, according to the tournament director. See full story here:

HOW KIDS CAN GET OVER THE MOTIVATION BRICK WALL

OCTOBER 26TH DEADLINE FOR CHEAP HOTEL ROOMS

 The Anchorage Hilton Hotel reminds delegates to the 54th Annual Conference of the Association of Alaska School Boards that a deadline is fast approaching to take advantage of the lower rate being offered for rooms at the hotel during the conference. The Hilton staff says it will offer the conference rate of $95 per night for any reservation made by October 26th.  American School Board Journal has extended the nominations deadline to October 19 for the 2008 Magna Awards, which honor school boards that use effective programming to put student achievement and community engagement at the center of their work. See full news release here:
