LAWSUIT TARGETING SCHOOL
FUNDING NEARS COMPLETION
As Alaska readies for the holidays, a team of lawyers is
preparing for the final round in a court fight over how the state funds
schools, and whether there is a connection between money and student
performance. Final arguments in the lawsuit known as Moore v. Alaska are set

GOVERNOR FORWARDS BUDGET
RECOMMENDATIONS
The State of Alaska is forecasting a large increase in
revenue from a new petroleum tax formula, and Gov. Frank Murkowski is passing
along recommendations for spending some of the money, including advance funding

EMPHASIZE THE INDIANSÕ SIDE OF THANKSGIVING.
Teacher Bill Morgan walks into his third-grade
class wearing a black Pilgrim hat made of construction paper and begins
snatching up pencils, backpacks and glue sticks form his pupils. He tells them
the items now belong to him because he ÒdiscoveredÓ them. Morgan is among
elementary school teachers who have ditched the traditional Thanksgiving lesson
and replaced it with a more realistic look at the complex relationship between
