INTERIM
COMMISSIONER OF EED IS NAMED
The State Board of Education and Early
Development on Tuesday named Barbara Thompson interim commissioner of EED.
ThompsonÕs appointment, which is subject to the approval of Gov. Sarah Palin,
will begin Aug. 18 and will last for up to one year. See full story here:

NEW FAIRBANKS
SUPERINTENDENT ARRIVES
The Fairbanks North Star Borough School
DistrictÕs new superintendent has arrived in town and is scheduled to begin
work in August. Nancy Wagner, who will be taking over the helm of the school
district when Superintendent Ann Shortt retires Aug. 31, moved to Fairbanks

DISTRICT SETS
TLINGIT CURRICULUM
Sealaska Heritage Institute and the
Juneau School District have co-produced what they say is the first broad-scale
Tlingit language and culture curriculum that meets state academic and cultural
standards. The curriculum, composed of 18 units, has been distributed to every

ACCLIMATED
School teachers from across Alaska are
in Fairbanks this month learning about climate change and how to more
