Policy Development
Board policy is an essential management tool. A clearly written policy is your district's guide to success. AASB is here to support your policy making, and to help you improve it. Consultation, workshops, research, samples, policy reference manual and custom policy development are some aspects of the service.
Superintendent Search Service
AASB offers a full slate of services to assist school boards in selecting a superintendent. The search service can help you: develop your action plan, identify selection criteria, develop the recruitment process, evaluate applications, assist in initial screening, conduct reference checks, identify interview strategies, respond to the media, and coordinate community and staff involvement.
Quality Schools/Quality Students Service
The QS2 Service is AASB’s answer to the need for comprehensive school improvement in Alaska. Beginning with the development of a strategic plan, AASB staff help school districts identify needs and coordinate the implementation of action plans in four areas: Leadership, Programs & Staff, Community and Parent Engagement, & Resources. Assistance is provided by Alaskans identified as experts in their field and will occur in the districtStrategic Planning
With community and staff involvement AASB facilitators help school districts develop a strategic plan that will serve as a roadmap to accomplishing strategies and contribute to achieving objectives geared toward enhancing student achievement.
Legal Council
AASB contracts with legal counsel for regular consultation and legal research on issues of statewide importance. AASB occasionally files "friend-of-the-court" briefs and maintains a legal assistance fund for litigation of statewide relevance.
Labor Relations
AASB maintains complete files on current teacher contracts, salary schedules, and extra duty pay schedules for all districts in the state. AASB also maintains information on professional negotiators, arbitrators and mediators, and provides recommendations upon request. AASB tracks labor relations activity of statewide significance.
