Chugach
District Overview
The Chugach School District Office is based in Anchorage, Alaska. Chugach's 214 students are scattered throughout 22,000 square miles of mostly isolated and remote areas of South Central Alaska. With 30 faculty and staff, CSD is the smallest organization to ever win a Baldrige Award. CSD delivers instruction in education from preschool up to age 21 in a comprehensive, standards-based system. Education occurs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Instruction is delivered in the work place, in the community, in the home and in school. Half (50%) of the students in the Chugach School District are minorities (Alaska Natives).
CSD received the 2001 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation's premier award for performance excellence and quality achievement.
District Goals
1. Students will demonstrate effective written and verbal communication to a variety of audiences.
2. Students will effectively use critical thinking and problem solving skills in making daily decisions.
3. Students will demonstrate a positive attitude that includes self-confidence, leadership, and a sense of humor (character development).
4. Students will learn to set priorities and achieve personal, family, and community goals.
5. Students will possess the skills and attitudes to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
6. Students will understand, preserve, and appreciate their own language and culture and the heritage of others.
7. Students and community will incorporate modern technology to enhance learning.
