Kake City
District Overview
The Kake City School District, serving 153 students, is located on the northwest coast of Kupreanof Island, 38 air miles northwest of Petersburg and 95 air miles southwest of Juneau. Kake is a Tlingit village with a fishing, logging and subsistence lifestyle. Traditional customs are important to Kake residents who proudly display the world's largest totem pole commissioned by the City and carved by Chilkats in 1967 for Alaska's centennial. The 132-foot totem pole now stands on a bluff overlooking town. The school district hosts an accredited high school, junior high school, and elementary school. Kake is noted for its reconstructed school facilities, its strong athletic teams, and its commitment to make the community and school asset rich for all students.

The Kake City School District will provide an educational environment that prepares students to be successful, confident skilled learners and responsible contributing citizens of the local and global society.
