Ketchikan Gateway Borough
District Overview
The Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District (KGBSD), located on the western coast of Revillagigedo Island 235 south of Juneau, is comprised of five schools, one alternative school, and two charter schools. The community of Ketchikan is tucked into the mountains, and spilling down to the shores of the Inside Passage. Residents of his regional hub of 15,000, make their living from the surrounding forest, the abundant fish runs, the thousands of visitors that flock north each year, and other entrepreneurial ventures. The Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District services 2391 students in pre K-12.

Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District will ensure that every student has the opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge to succeed.
Strategic Plan Objectives
All students will graduate or meet their individual educational plan.
All students will be reading at a proficient or advanced level by the end of 3rdgrade.
All students will be proficient or advanced in writing and math by the end of4th grade.
All students will be proficient or advanced in reading, writing, and math bythe end of the 6th grade.
Strategic Plan Strategies (Targets)
We will
#1: implement district-wide sequential, standards-based curricula with appropriate grade level student assessments and public accountability.
#2: implement a remediation plan for students who are not proficient in reading, writing, and math.
#3: develop and implement opportunities for middle and high school academic partnerships an honor courses to encourage students to achieve at high levels.
#4: maintain a district-wide special education program in accordance with I.D.E.A. and current state/federal guidelines that meets the educational needs of identified students.
#5: establish a basis for understanding and develop a plan for addressing the dropout rate.
#6: actively work with the Borough to secure maximum local funding and continued funding of activities outside the cap.
