District Overview
The Kodiak Island Borough School District (KIBSD), located on Alaska’s largest island, is 250 air miles south of Anchorage.  Kodiak has been inhabited for the past 8,000 years and serves as a major fishing port and home to the largest United States Coast Guard base.  The school district encompasses the entire island with schools in Akhiok, Chiniak, Danger Bay, Karluk, Kodiak (7 schools), Larsen Bay, Old Harbor, Quzinkie, and Port Lions.  Currently the district is heavily invested in achieving the mission by finding answers to the following questions:

What services should parents expect from the KIBSD?
What is working well now in your school, in the district, and in the communityto help our children succeed in school?
What services should KIBSD add, change, or eliminate to improve parentinvolvement and communication between home and school?

Mission of District
The Kodiak Island Borough School District, in close cooperation with our diverse island community, exists to provide an educational program of the highest standard that empowers all students to achieve personal and academic excellence while developing their full potential as responsible, productive citizens.
